For 2021, Bemidji Area Take a Kid Fishing held an Essay Contest titled "Why I would like to go Fishing to replace our annual event that was postponed due to Covid. The essay contest was op children 10-15 years old and we gave a lifetime fishing license valued at $469 for each age level. 

The essay contest winners were: Liam Amsden, Age 10; Gracen Foley, Age 11; Eleanor Hodapp, Age 12; Emily Mastin, Age 13; Sam Maus, Age 14; and Wyatt Lahr, Age 15.
