For 2021, Bemidji Area Take a Kid Fishing held an
Essay Contest titled "Why I would like to go Fishing to replace our annual event that was postponed due to Covid. The essay contest was op children 10-15 years old and we gave a lifetime fishing license valued at $469 for each age level. The winners were: Liam Amsden, Age 10; Gracen Foley, Age 11; Eleanor Hodapp, Age 12; Emily Mastin, Age 13; Sam Maus, Age 14; and Wyatt Lahr, Age 15. Congratulations to the winners and thank you to all of the participants for your essays. We look forward to seeing all of you in 2022 on the water!

Past Bemidji Area Take A Kid Fishing events have been covered by local print and radio media, the Bemidji Area Take A Kid Fishing event has been featured in regional television shows such as: Fishing the Midwest with Bob Jensen, Out and About with Ralph Jon Fritz, and Tony Dean Outdoors. National Geographic Magazine has featured the event as well.
We are very proud of our program and truly believe that it is the highest quality of its kind. Organizations from other communities, as far away as Indiana, have recently developed similar fishing programs for kids, after consulting with our committee.
